National
Harbor, a new addition to the Potomac waterfront encompasses a 300 acre
mixed use development in Prince George's County, Maryland. When
completed, the new urban waterfront community will boast the Gaylord
National Resort and Convention Center, along with four other hotels,
condominiums, offices, retail shops, a marina, and the National
Children's Museum.
The National Harbor project is the vision
of Milt Peterson, and is estimated to cost roughly 2.1 Billion dollars
upon completion. The cluster of modern buildings protruding from
the formerly forested landscape edges up to the Potomac river, looking
proudly at Old Town's colonial silhouette. It seems to emanate a
luxurious and alluring image to tourists looking out at the
water.
On sunny days, you can see the light
reflecting from the high end Gaylord Resort, and as its neighbors are
completed, an illuminated urban area will be seen at night. It is
certain that National Harbor has made its impact on the Potomac River,
which now boasts two very different planned towns
fro` m different era's right across from each
other.
National Harbor is located directly across the
Potomac from Old Town Alexandria, and is accessible by road, as well as
water taxi to either Old Town, or the District of Columbia via
Georgetown.
It is expected that National Harbor will eventually generate over one billion dollars for Prince George's county.
